Timmy Parsons was adopted from Cambodia by an American family in 1990 at just four years of age. He grew up with his family in Camden, Delaware. At the age of sixteen, Timmy felt a calling to help his people of Cambodia. While at his home church, Timmy served in the youth leadership team and music ministries, as and his calling developed. In order to prepare himself for ministry, Timmy went to Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he is currently studying to become a worship leader, as well as majoring in international business.

During his junior year at college, Timmy pioneered Disciples of Christ (DOC) Missions. Now in its third semester, this ministry involves over 500 students working at the Lighthouse Mission and partners with other organizations through Compassion Alliance.

Just as Moses was adopted by the wealthiest nation in the world and called back to his own people, Timmy believes his experience is part of a calling from God to reach out to children in need from his home country. He will soon go back to Cambodia for the first time in twenty years.

As a ministry affiliated with DOC, Race for the Orphans shows the love of Christ by raising money for prosthetic arms and legs for the children of Cambodia. Active landmines in the country maim about 250 children a year, and parents of poor children will cut off their children’s arms or legs and send them into the cities to beg for money. In Cambodia there are also hundreds of children that who are being sold into the human slave trade.

Timmy has been building both the DOC Missions and the Race for the Orphans with full support from the university. The school has granted Timothy the permission to make DOC missions an official organization at Southeastern University, and Timmy will take twenty-five students to Cambodia with him next summer to continue to building the mission and helping the children of Cambodia.

All of the financial support for this ministry comes through support letters and offerings from traveling and speaking engagements. Donations to Race for the Orphans can be made through the Compassion Alliance and are tax deductible.

Please pray for Race for the Orphans as it continues to grow and partners with people who wish to help the children of Cambodia in Jesus’ name.
